Truth Be Told Film Festival
Over three evenings, short documentaries made by students in the Documentary Media Studies graduate certificate program are screened for the public. The films are the products of a year of study in documentary production, history and theory. The program has just completed its tenth year.
Documentary Media Studies
The Documentary Media Studies program (Doc Studies) at The New School provides an opportunity to study documentary filmmaking—production, history and theory—in a small, tightly focused group of students and faculty in New York City, the world's documentary capital. The Doc Studies program is full-time and daytime; and offers an intensive one-year curriculum with a focus on documentary as cinema. The program director is Deanna Kamiel.
The New School
The New School offers a particular form of higher education grounded in history and informed by a legacy of critical thought and civic engagement. The school’s dedication to academic freedom and intellectual inquiry reaches back to the university’s founding in 1919 as a home for progressive thinkers and the creation of the University in Exile in 1933 for scholars persecuted in Nazi Europe.
Our university is a second home for students from a vast diversity of geographical, cultural, economic, and political backgrounds. This provides an unprecedented opportunity for students and faculty to deepen and broaden their understanding and knowledge of ideas and areas of intellectual inquiry. New York City, one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world, serves as a social laboratory to this dynamic global community. Students can take advantage of the city's international resources as they pursue their goals and develop the creative courage to make a difference.
Today, we are the only comprehensive university housing the original school for media studies, a one-year intensive program in documentary, a world-famous design school, a premier liberal arts college, a renowned performing arts school, a legendary social research school, and other advanced degree programs, created to challenge and support freethinkers who want to change the world.
